Word of the day.
“Frak,” Battlestar Galactica’s version of the f-bomb. It’s been around forever, but I just discovered it. And like a kid with a new word, I’m using it all the time. It’s very expressive, and like its more familiar counterpart, you can use it for just about anything. For example, “That’s really frakked up,” or “This house is a frakking mess,” or even simply, “frak,” when something just isn’t working. It’s quite satisfying to say, more so than other substitutes, such as Hitchhiker’s Guide’s “fark,” or my grandmother’s version, “fudge.” With “frak,” people know what you mean. Actually it’s more fun to say than the original epithet. Try it. Frak. Frak! FRAK! See? That was fun.
My friend Clare just spent a week with her husband, Drew, and a bunch of other people who are also into Battlestar. Apparently everyone was using “frak” gratuitously (because it is such fun to say.) She said, “there was a whole lotta frakking at the beach house,” meaning that people were saying it way too often. Sure, right. We know what ya’ll were really doing at that beach house.
